About Cyndee Todgham Cherniak

Cyndee Todgham Cherniak is the founding lawyer of LexSage, a boutique international trade law and sales tax firm in Toronto, Ontario. She has practiced for almost 20 years at Canada’s top Bay Street law firms.

Cyndee is known as an lawyer who works closely with other lawyers, in-house counsel, international financial institutions, trade associations, non-governmental organizations and governments. She is an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and teaches a course on NAFTA and bilateral trading arrangements (2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007).

She is frequently contacted by top media organizations to share her views and insights on hot button trade issues. She has been a featured guest on several different radio and television shows such as Midday Markets and Headline on BNN – Business News Network, Today on China Radio International (CRI), The Rutherford Report on Corus Radio, The Agenda with Steve Paikin and iChannel's @issue. Cyndee has been featured, quoted and/or has acted as a contributor to several articles in a variety of national newspapers including the National Post, Toronto Sun, The Globe and Mail and The Vancouver Sun, and has been published as an author or contributor in numerous publications and e-zines, such as Law Times, Canadian Lawyer, Lawyers Weekly, Canadian Business, Embassy Magazine, The Hill Times and National Magazine.

Cyndee provides advice on harmonized sales tax (“HST”) and is assisting many clients prepare for HST implementation in Ontario on July 1, 2010. She is also an active writer on the subject and is the author of a paper “Preparing for Harmonized Sales Tax” and “Get Ready for Harmonization of GST and RST”. Cyndee co authored a National Post Op-Ed with Lisa MacLeod (Revenue Critic for the Progressive Conservative Caucus at Queen’s Park) entitled, “Six Things You Should Know About the HST” (November 19, 2009). She has been quoted in the National Post in “Tips to East Pain Paying the Piper, Take Steps Now to Reduce Effects of Rule Changes” (January 11, 2010) and “HST Gets Mixed Reviews in Ontario” (March 30, 2009). Cyndee has participated as a speaker in various conferences, including the “4th Annual Tax Efficient Finance Structures: Harmonized Sales Tax and Goods and Services Tax Tool for the Structured Financiers Tool Kit”, “HST & Ontario – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “Sales Tax Harmonization and the Ontario Graphic Design Industry”.
